대학이 대내외적인 환경 변화에 잘 적응하고 질 높은 교육의 제공으로 생존·발전하기 위해서 대학 나름의 차별화된 교양교육과정 개발과 제공이 시급함에 따라 각 대학에서 시행되고 있는 교양교육과정의 운영실태와 특징을 분석하여 대학교양교육과정에 대한 개선방안을 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 국내 11개 사립대학교의 대학요람과 홈페이지를 토대로 교양교육과정의 목적 및 목표, 교양교육 비율, 교양교육과정 이수체계 및 교과목 현황을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 교양교육의 목적 및 목표를 제시하는 방식과 내용에 차이가 있었으며, 학교마다 최소 2개에서 최대 15개의 목표로 구성되어 있었다. 그 중 ‘인성’, ‘창의력’, ‘통합력’과 ‘전공기초’, ‘세계화’등이 목표내용으로 강조되고 있었다. 교양교육과정의 평균학점 비율은 27%로 나타났고, 교양교육과정의 평균 이수학점은 최소학점을 포함하여 38.8학점으로 나타났다. 교양교육과정의 이수체계는 각 대학마다 영역의 수와 내용이 다르게 나타났으며, 최소 2영역에서 최대 10영역까지 편성되어 있었고, 교양교과목 개설수는 평균 182과목을 개설하고 있었다.
영문초록
It is urgent to develop and provide a differentiated liberal arts curriculum of a university so that a university may adapt internal and external environmental changes properly and provide quality education for survival and development. Accordingly, this study aimed to introduce an improvement plan on university liberal art curriculum by analyzing liberal art curriculum operating condition and features currently performed in universities. For this purpose, the study analyzed objective and target of literal art curriculum, ratio of liberal art education, liberal art course taking system and status of subjects on the basis of university catalogs and homepages of 11 domestic private universities in Korea. As a result, there were differences in the method and contents of suggesting objective and target of liberal art education, and targets were between 2 and 15 by universities. ‘Personality’, ‘creativity’, ‘integration’, ‘foundation for major studies’ and ‘globalization’ were stressed as contents of targets. The ratio of average credits of liberal art courses was 27% and average credit taking of each liberal art course is 38.8 including minimum credit. The liberal art curriculum taking systems vary by numbers and details of area in each university from minimum 2 areas to maximum 10 areas. And the average number of liberal art subjects is 182.
